Underground troubadour Jonathan Willett (Tunnel Lights, Harsh Sunshine, Tough Love) offers a great album that sits at the crossroads of folk and postpunk. He has conjured the ghosts of Ray Davies, Tom Verlaine, Elliot Smith, Peter Perrett, and David Thomas to create a fuzzed out, constructed and thoughtful collection of songs that speak of the human experience from a protagonist that drinks in bars, watches friends live and die, loves, ages, and recounts the beauty of life along side of the dark edges that exist everywhere.
Jonathan can be found playing dives in Oakland with his band Tunnel Lights.

about

The sound of rain still manages to seep through the barricaded windows of the basement. It’s one am and I have to work tomorrow but if I could just get this bass track down I could sleep better. In between band practices ideas come and must be put down or they fly away like sparks from back yard bonfires. I’m not a drummer, but I’m alone, so I guess I’ll do. Portland and Oakland. Two cities where I holed up in basements and bedrooms sketching with twisted cables and broken pedals. Trying to define the contours of years lived searching for something outside the everyday encounters and daily doldrums. Memories passed through fuzz pedals and delays. The cars screech in the streets in harmony with the overtones of busted circuits and future dreams. Grey skies and sunshine. Get it down before it’s gone.
